FAQ about Sunless Tanning

What is your tanning solution made of?

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is made from raw sugar cane, a simple saccharine, which is primarily used as the active ingredient in sunless tanning products. It is derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, and by the fermentation of glycerin. When DHA combines with the amino acids naturally found in the skin, it reacts by giving your skin a “tan” appearance. All of the high-quality tanning solutions that I use are all concentrated formulas that are not watered down with unnecessary additives. It contains organic ingredients with an instant bronzer that allows us to see where the tanning solution is being applied, which also gives that “instant gratification” to the client. It takes approximately 4 – 8 hours (maxing out at 12 hours) after your spray tanning session for the color to fully develop. The lower time range is the development time for the rapid spray tan solution as opposed to the standard solution.

How long will my spray tan last?

Your custom spray tan can last as long as your skin takes to naturally exfoliate and also correlates to whether the pre and post tanning suggestions were followed correctly. Of course, individual results may vary because all skin is different. However, for most people, it lasts anywhere from 6-10 days.

What am I supposed to wear during my spray tanning session?

Females can wear whatever they would like during their spray tanning session. Males, of any age, are required to wear g-strings* or an undergarment of their choosing (Absolutely No Exceptions). We recommend undergarments or swimwear that are dark in color or whatever you are most comfortable with! Sunless Love provides complimentary disposable g-strings for all clients.

How should I prepare for my custom spray tan?

For optimal results, you should bathe the day prior, or at least 4 hours before the appointment. You also should arrive wearing no makeup, lotions, or deodorant as they are barriers to the absorption of the solution. Exfoliation is the main necessity for a beautiful outcome, so please do so during your shower the night before your appointment. Please remember to not apply deodorant, lotions, or perfumes once showered.

I’ve never had a spray tan before. Will I look orange or be too dark?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions. The solutions we use are premium and of superb quality. They are made with specifications for different skin types for the best possible outcomes. It is best to follow the timeline for your specific custom solution. If the solution is over-processed, a slight orange color is possible.

How should I prepare for my custom spray tan?

For optimal results, it’s important to be freshly showered, makeup-free, shaved/depilated, and exfoliated before your appointment. Please remember to not apply deodorant, lotions, or perfumes once showered.

How do I care for my skin after my spray tan has developed?

Keeping hydrated and applying a lotion without parabens or mineral oils to your skin throughout the day is key to keeping your tan the longest. Most important is to keep hydrated! We recommend moisturizing with a simple daily moisturizer, one of our favorites is HEMPZ, especially after your first shower and before bed. You should also avoid scrubbing your skin with washcloths or loofas after you have been tanned. Another thing to remember is to “pat” yourself dry after bathing. Avoid rubbing!

After my appointment, how long do I need to wait until I can shower?

Depending on which type of solution you choose for your spray tan, is what determines how long you have to wait to have your first “rinse”. If you chose a Custom Standard Tan, it is advised you do not shower for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours after your tanning session for it to fully develop. However, if you chose to do a Custom Rapid Tanning session, you must shower between 2 and 4 hours following your spray tan. 2 hours being a lighter result and 4 being a darker result. Please refrain from doing any activities that may cause you to sweat profusely or engaging in any type of activity that may cause your tan to get wet and streak.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We understand that things come up but if you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please give 6 hours advance notice to ensure that you will not be charged the $25 cancellation fee. NO SHOWS are charged the FULL AMOUNT of the tan.

Is gratuity included in the price of my custom spray tan from Sunless Love Spray Tanning?

No, it is not. Like any other service, gratuity is left completely to your discretion. If you were pleased with your service, the standard gratuity is 18-20%.

What payment methods does Sunless Love Spray Tanning accept?
